Where to begin? Seems like I've always loved to draw. I remember in my younger days drawing horses and ballerinas mostly, later moving on to whimsical subjects like happy flowers and lady bugs falling in love with snails. Then in 1989 I found a wonderful teacher, Karen Rosaco, in my hometown (at the time), Duanesburg, New York.
Taking watercolor classes in the evening through our local "adult ed" program, I was introduced to watercolor and encouraged to develop my own style. It always helps to have a mentor who gives information and encouragement freely (even when what you produce seems a little "iffy").

Karen also encouraged me to bring my work out to one of the local art shows. Oh what a stressful day that was. Some interest — no sales. I decided I could quit or work harder in finding my place in this "art world". I continued on and off with adult ed and later attended a couple of classes at a local evening college. Though I could draw — I decided I should start at the beginning and signed up for Fundamentals of Drawing I — maybe there were shortcuts I wasn't aware of, rules I needed to know, a "how-to" for drawing. In that class, I ultimately discovered the pencil and all it could do.

So here I am, striving to do that most wonderful work — the masterpiece. Until that day comes I welcome you here to share what my world looks like here in Upstate New York. I hope you enjoy the trip.

My first camera, a 110, was a gift from my father, Frank, at age 14. My subjects - family, friends, our family garden and my favorite subject, Gretchen, my dog. Trying to capture feelings on film. That's what photography is all about for me. Those moments when no one's looking, spontaneous and private.

My camera was a constant companion on the many hikes into the Adirondacks during my teens and early twenties with close friends. The extra weight in my pack - not an issue. My cameras continues to be by my side to this day.

As a photographer, I'm always searching for that perfect shot, a delicate mixture of light, shadow, value and the perfect subject. Sometimes there are disappointments, but lessons come with those disappointments and sometimes you get lucky.

Here are a few of my favorite shots, with more to come. I hope you enjoy them.
